Hamilton County Office of Addiction Response

In its second semester, The Addiction Response Policy project will be partnering with the Hamilton County Office of Addiction Response, a county government office working to strengthen addiction prevention, treatment, recovery, and support systems across Cincinnati and the surrounding metropolitan area. Last year, the project examined recovery housing policy, potential impact of proposed legislation on recovery houses, and data-sharing agreements in the continuum of care across Quick Response Teams, law enforcement, treatment providers, housing, and community partners. This year, the team’s work will focus on how Hamilton County can align its local addiction response strategy with emerging federal priorities under the Great American Recovery Initiative and related HHS and SAMHSA initiatives. Federal addiction policy is undergoing a period of transition, with current priorities emphasizing prevention, treatment, long-term recovery, and greater coordination across behavioral health, public safety, housing, and other community systems. For Hamilton County, monitoring and aligning with these evolving federal priorities may be important for identifying funding opportunities and assessing where local programs may need to adapt to new federal expectations.

As part of this project, team members will analyze the key federal focus areas, assess where current county programs and policies already align, identify gaps as well as opportunities for improvement, investigate the approaches other county governments have taken to align with federal expectations, and ultimately develop actionable recommendations to strengthen coordination, expand access to effective services, and position Hamilton County to pursue future federal funding. Students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, particularly those with interests in law, public policy, public health, economics, or related fields.
