National League of Cities
The National League of Cities is a nonpartisan organization that works to support thousands of cities across the US by providing insights into policymaking. The NLC provides resources and case studies to help cities learn from one another, informing city leaders on new policy developments and the successes of policies implemented across the US. NLC covers various issue areas, such as economics, housing, environment, education, and public health and safety.
This semester, our team will research how city leaders can support small businesses through municipal action, policy, and accountability. We will analyze different mechanisms to uphold the industry that supports roughly 50% of private-sector employment in the United States. We will examine both what small businesses can do to strengthen themselves and what local governments can do to boost local economies, culminating in an actionable toolkit and formal white-paper presentation to the National League of Cities."
